ESPN launches EXP event series in partnership with EA

In collaboration with video game publishing powerhouse Electronic Arts, ESPN today announced the launch of EXP, an esports event series to take place at ESPN-owned events, including The 2019 ESPYS and X Games Minneapolis 2019.

EXP promises to provide multi-level competitions, appealing to most all levels of play, and multiple genres and games throughout the series, though it will kick off with EA’s phenomenally successful Apex Legends.

“Leaning in to esports represents ESPN’s focus on serving sports fans and expanding audiences. We remain committed to serving gaming fans across all platforms and content types, and Apex Legends is a great title to showcase EXP’s vision of offering world-class live esports events anchored by storytelling and multi-platform distribution.” said Justin Connolly, EVP of Disney & ESPN affiliate sales and marketing.

Apex Legends is a natural first-choice to launch EXP; the free-to-play title was played by over 50,000,000 players within 30 days of its launch just a few short months ago, and has continued to gain momentum ever since.
