After months of rumors, speculation, and leaks, today Nintendo finally unveiled their new Switch Lite handheld console – essentially a portable-only variation of their highly popular Switch hybrid.
According to Nintendo, the Switch Lite is “dedicated to handheld play.” The Switch Lite features most of the same tech specs as the original Switch, sans removable Joy-Con controllers and dock, and has an MSRP of $199.99.
A savings of $100 USD isn’t too shabby if you don’t mind a slightly smallers screen and some stripped-down functionality. Given that the “lite” is also a minor reduction in footprint (less than 1” separates the two units), and longer battery life, the Switch Lite might be the perfect Switch for younger players, particularly now that the 3DS is seeing its final days on retail shelves.
Available in 3 colors this September, with an additional Pokemon-themed version 2 months later, the Switch Lite is exactly what we expected. Now, when can we look forward to getting our hands on the much-rumored Switch Pro, Nintendo?
