Pika, Pika! Detective Pikachu surpasses Warcraft as highest-grossing video game film

The life action Pokémon movie, Detective Pikachu, just surpassed Warcraft as the highest grossing video game film of all time with $436 million in ticket sales worldwide.

Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth, helps a former pokémon trainer, Justice Smith, find out what happened to his father. Warcraft had been the highest record holder for worldwide gross sales in 2016 with $433 million in sales.

Not only is Detective Pikachu the highest earning video game film ever, it’s also the most well-received. If you take a look at Rotten Tomatoes, Detective Pikachu holds a 67% fresh rating which beat out the Tomb Raider reboot, and slaughtered Warcraft which had a paltry 26%.

Of course, with the success Detective Pikachu had at the box office it would make perfect sense that Warner Bros. and Legendary are now taking a look at developing a sequel to the movie.
