The industry is all about augmented reality these days so it should come as no surprise that they’re getting their AR-on in Japan as well. Legendary JRPG publishers Square Enix have announced they’re throwing their own hat into the augmented reality mobile gaming ring, using their decades-old (and MEGA popular) Dragon Quest series for inspiration.
The game, dubbed Dragon Quest Walk is currently under development but Square Enix have opened up 20,000 slots to test drive the closed beta, set to begin June 11th.
According to Gematsu, 10,000 slots each for the iOS and Android version of the game will be made available to lucky participants.
Augmented Reality gaming has taken off in our post-Pokemon Go world, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone to see big publishers like Square Enix getting involved, particularly with Apple’s newly announce development-side initiatives.
As huge Dragon Quest fans here, we’ll be watching this one very closely, and praying for a Westernized version of the game.
